• In the sector of pharmaceutical & medicine manufacturing alone, the state has nearly 50 companies employing 3,420. This employment does not include the headquarters of the CDC that employs more than 6,500 scientists and staff



• Ranked seventh in total number of biotech companies in the country jumped from 11th in three short years



• 140 percent growth in bioscience industry since 1993 – forecasting to triple size of sector by 2010



• Strong industry concentrations in vaccine development, cancer research, immunology and medical devices
